Although it must clearly be under- stood that the Government is and will be under no obligation to provide further employment, the office of Assistant Mistress is normally regarded as of a permanent nature, and in the ordinary course of events if the service and conduct of the officer is entirely satisfactory to the Government, and if she is considered in every way fit, medically and otherwise, to continue in office, and if replacement by engagement of some other person would become necessary but for her retention, the prospects are that the Government will retain her services, if she so desires, either by transfer to the permanent establishment, with consequential benefits and expéct- ations, or by re-engagement för a further period under a fresh agree- ment. In the absence of express agreement with or decision of the Government to the contrary, any continued service after the expiry of the period of engagement will be monthly.
